Lavant House Do It Again

Lavant House Do It Again!

On Thursday 12th January, the Year 10 Lavant House netball team travelled to Felpham Community College to compete in the annual West Sussex West netball tournament.  The girls were apprehensive because one of their key players, Imogen Terry, was ill on the day of the tournament.  Luckily, Jessica Breach stepped in at the last minute and the team became hopeful and enthusiastic.  A record 10 teams entered the tournament proving how difficult it would be to come away the overall winners.

Lavant House's first match was against the Westergate 'A' team.  Lavant started strong and won their first game with a comfortable 12 goals to 0.  Lavant then had a break giving them time to re-group and plan their strategy for the next few matches.  Lavant then played Bourne 'B', they were a good team but Lavant House proved to be too strong.  They won their second game 11 goals to 1.  With two wins under their belt, Lavant House was confident and this helped them to their 12-0 win against Felpham Community College.  Lavant could not be faulted on their defence, mid court play and shooting and everything was going their way.

Lavant House had another break before playing last years winners, Bishop Luffa 'A'.  The match was very even with both teams scoring on their centre.  However, 6 minutes into the game Lavant House picked up their game and managed to gain a two goal lead.  This proved just enough, Bishop Luffa scored in the final 30 seconds but were still a goal down.  Lavant House won 7-6, taking them into the final to play for first place.

The final was Lavant House vs Bourne 'A', the winners of Pool B.  The final proved to be swayed in Lavant House's favour and Bourne 'A' could not do enough to beat a strong and very confident Lavant House team.  Lavant House won the match 13-0 and were winners of the overall tournament.

Miss Cawte, the Head of Physical Education at Lavant House School said "The Lavant House U15 team played some of the best netball I have seen them play this season.  They were focused, determined and unstoppable.  I am very proud of them all and they more than deserved this fantastic win."

The U15 Lavant House netball team consisted of Grace Hooper (Captain), Megan Adams, Libby Swan, Portia Wilson-Smith, Alice Leaver, Natalya Fagerlund, Georgia Miles, Jessica Breach and Imogen Terry.
