Open Day at Lavant House
Open Day at Lavant House
Open day for Lavant House took place on Saturday 15th October. The Junior school Science activities kicked off with a bang as prospective parents and children were treated to film canisters launching into the air! The chemical reaction between Alka-Seltzer and water produces carbon dioxide building a huge pressure inside the canister before popping off the lid and exploding like a rocket.
The Science classroom oozed a fresh smell of lemons as children blew up balloons with another chemical reaction and were spun into a frenzy creating mini tornadoes in plastic drinking bottles using just water, washing up liquid and glitter. Many were amazed at the power of a piece of cardboard preventing upturned glasses of water from spilling out. The final EGGSperiment was cracking as Year 3 pupil Lily Houweling attempted to stand on a tray of eggs without breaking them! The strong dome shape of eggs allows them to cope with huge pressure when positioned upright. To the girl's surprise at least half of the eggs were left intact!
The Junior school also show off their creative side offering a range of other enjoyable activities covering Art, French and Textiles. The girls were excellent ambassadors for the school and their good manners didn't go unnoticed.
