Lavant House School - Independent school for girls

'Fruity Friday', January 2011

In the foundation class at Lavant House, there is more than one reason for looking forward to the end of the week. Every Friday, the pupils challenge themselves to try something new, but not just anything - fruit! This tradition has now become known as 'Fruity Friday,' and has been a great success. The foundation class are now experienced fruit tasters and will try anything, more often than not, discovering that they love it! The list of fruits recounted by one young pupil includes exotic varieties such as dragon fruit, lychee, Asian pear, mango, physallis and pineapple. They have also munched on more seasonal varieties such as blueberries, strawberries and blackberries. Amazingly, lychees were a resounding favourite!

This is the joint work of the foundation teacher, Mrs Odell, and parent, Mrs Forester. The grown-ups have become equally passionate about trying new and interesting fruits and stress how important it is for young children to get used to eating a more varied range of foods.
