Years 1 & 2 visit to Staunton
Last week, pupils in Year 1 and 2 at Junior Lavant House went to explore the beautiful grounds of Staunton Country Park. Pupils were encouraged to make use of their developing geographical and mathematical skills whilst carrying out an orienteering activity.
The girls were kitted out in their fine wet weather gear, ready for action! They had to complete a series of tasks that involved using pictures, maps and co-ordinates. Once all clues were safely located, pupils were able to discover the answer to the missing word they were hunting. All of the girls were overjoyed by the sense of pride they felt when they had completed the task, they could not believe they would be able to use co-ordinates and maps to locate their bearings so confidently and successfully.
As a treat at the end of their mission, the pupils were able to meet some of the animals that call Staunton Country Park home. They were quiet enough to spot deer and peacocks, as well as pigs and owls. Everyone was delighted to have the chance to feed goats, chickens and turkeys.
