Literature Loving Teddy Bears
Lavant House book lovers enjoyed the last of this year's charity literature lunches on Thursday, 1st July. And in a flight of whimsy, their teddies were invited to join them in the woods that day for a poetry picnic.
Some of the girls, staff (and their teddies) sat in the glorious sunshine and tucked into a delicious picnic, willingly prepared by school chefs Adrian and Karen, even though they were in the middle of their busy preparations for the school's Summer Ball.
Whilst eating, students and staff enjoyed participating in a non-stop poetry reciting relay, presenting an eclectic mix of poems. From the ridiculous to the sublime, the poems ranged from Winnie-the-Pooh's peas and honey poem to W. B. Yeats' 'Cloths of Heaven'.
The poetry lunchers raised £150.00 to be shared between the educational foundation Life Spring Africa and St Wilfrid's Hospice.
It was such a engaging experience that even the Lavant House Stable's chickens were drawn to join in, converts like the teddies, to the charm of poetry.
