ON THE RADIO:
If you missed Mrs Bartholomew and Imogen Terry on BBC Sussex and Surrey on Monday afternoon you can listen to it via a BBC link for a few more days. Mrs Bartholomew was asking listeners in the area for their memories of Lavant House School and speaking about the school's Diamond Jubilee. Imogen was given the opportunity to talk about her plans for attaining the Green Flag standard as an Eco School which the presenter, Joe Talbot found very interesting. MUSIC TO THE EARS:
Mrs Howell Evans is pleased to announce that 2nd form pupil, Amy Dellor passed her Grade 5 classical guitar examination at Merit.
The GCSE music examinations are all now completed. Mrs Howell Evans commented that the compositions were very creative and well executed on themes including 12 bar blues and minimalist techniques. She says, "I was very pleased with the work done and am pleased that these are now all completed."
There is a chamber concert on Wednesday next week beginning at 4.15pm. Girls will be playing and singing solo pieces. Mrs Howell Evans says, "All are welcome to come along to the music room and hear the girls perform; I'm sure they'd love a friendly audience!" It is a 45 minute programme.
OPEN MORNING:
Mrs Bartholomew was very pleased with the response to our recent open morning which took place right in the middle of our Boarding Inspection. We had eight new prospective parents around the school and some of them have already enquired about a second visit so that they can have a more individual look around. Mrs Bartholomew said, "We are always pleased to show people around the school either at our organised Open Days or Drop in Mornings or indeed individually to suit them."
"We've had a lot of visitors to the school lately all of whom have remarked to me how they've enjoyed the experience."
ON THE TILES:
Did you know that you can become a part of the very fabric of the school by simply visiting the Art Room? Pupils, parents and staff are invited to decorate a tile which will be used as a frieze around the entrance door to the new food technology classroom and, if enough people come forward, in other uses in the room itself. Head of Art, Mrs Stone, tells us how it works: "The tiles are beautiful biscuit fired ones from our local supplier, Clay Man in Pagham. They also supplied the underglaze, the colours as well as the clear glaze which brings out the colours and protects the designs. I have asked people to restrict themselves to designs concerning food and kitchen utensils and we also have a core colour palette so that the end result sits well in a cohesive manner when it's finally installed around the doorway."
Artists wishing to immortalise their work are asked to contribute £10 per tile which they can sign; contributions will go towards the food technology room. Mrs Stone adds, "Anyone can come along to the art club on a Friday from 1pm-2pm and design their tile. I am always there to help if requiredand we have already had 21 tiles completed featuring fruit, vegetables, cakes, fish, eggs and kitchen tools; they look fantastic."
